Einsiedeln Christmas Market

Einsiedeln is a small town in the canton of Schwyz located in the area south of Lake Zurich, and close to the artificial lake of Sihlsee. Einsiedeln is located at an altitude of almost 900 metres. The place where the town stands today was used as a hermitage since the 9th century. Subsequently, in the 10th century it became a monastery, and in the 11th century the present town arose around the monastery. Einsiedeln has a beautiful old town and is a well-known summer resort and winter sports centre. The Benedictine abbey of Einsiedeln is considered one of the most important places of pilgrimage in Switzerland. The Einsiedeln Christmas Market is the town’s busiest event during the Christmas period.
