Wels Christmas Market

Wels is, after Linz, the second largest city in Upper Austria, the city is located along the Traun River a few kilometers southwest of Linz along the road leading to Salzburg. Founded by the Romans with the name of Ovilava, it became an important city in the imperial era, but with the fall of the Roman empire it lost all importance. The small town of Wels only became the site of an important market after the 13th century and received city rights. The Wels Christmas Market is the most important Christmas event in this Upper Austrian city.

WELS CHRISTMAS MARKETS

Advent events (Welser Weihnachtswelt) are usually enriched by three Christmas markets, one in the central square of the city, one in the imperial park and finally the thematic market on Gösser beer.

1) Wels Christmas Market (Bergweihnacht am Stadtplatz) in Wels Town Hall Square there are usually 25-30 wooden stalls with lots of items to give away.

2) Christmas market in Pollheimerpark (Winterzauber im Pollheimerpark). The Wels market is held in the Pollheimerpark, in this beautiful natural setting you will find stalls displaying decorations for the Christmas tree, wooden toys, handcrafted leather goods and many specialties of Austrian gastronomy.

3) Gösser Beer Market (Gösser Biergarten Advent). Gösser is one of the leading Austrian beer brands.
