Tarascon Christmas Market

Situated between Arles and Avignon, along the left bank of the Rhone, the town of Tarascon has a beautiful historic center with a medieval castle (Château de Tarascon) and ancient streets among which the rue des Halles stands out with its arcades, among the most interesting, in addition to the castle, the collegiate church of Sainte-Marthe (collégiale Sainte-Marthe) in Romanesque-Gothic style of the XII century. The town was born in ancient times as a Greek colony founded by settlers from nearby Marseille (Massalia), but Tarascon only became important starting from the 6th century. With the annexation of the inhabited center to the county of Provence, Tarascon further increased its military importance thanks to the fact that it was located on the border with the kingdom of France, which was then marked by the Rhone.

Traditional Christmas and gastronomic market on the place de la Gare made up of 20 exhibitors. Tarascon offers an ice rink for children, a real Christmas market with Santons, art crafts, food, and, in the city center, parades, a huge Christmas tree, a farm with animals, a trip to train to meet Santa Claus and other surprises. Tarascon’s Christmas events are called “Le Monde Merveilleux de Noël”.

Noël au coeur des traditions de Provence. Tarascon celebrates Christmas and the Calendales traditions, organizing a Christmas market (Marché de Noël) and a Marché aux Santons in the heart of the historic centre. Many of the appointments are offered free of charge: storytelling for children, processions of figurines, Pastoral, concerts …

Marché aux Santons on Place Frédéric Mistral, Place du Marché and Rue des Halles. The santonniers invite you to discover their original creations in various places in the town, Hôtel de Ville (Rez-de-chaussée and Salle des Consuls), Cloître des Cordeliers.

Marché de Noël on Place de la Gare and Cours Aristide Briand. Exhibitors and craftsmen offer different products to help prepare for Christmas.
