Christmas in Chicago is always something special. Winters are cold and snowy with few sunny days, so the city has a classic Christmas climate! Christmas in Chicago offers many activities to follow: the Christmas season begins with the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, then a succession of dazzling lights, decorations, shop windows richly illuminated and decorated, skating rinks ice and Christmas markets. Here is a selection of the largest and interesting Christmas fairs in Chicago.

Christkindlmarket Chicago – Daley Plaza in the Chicago Loop. This Christmas market dates back to 1996 and is inspired to the traditional Christmas markets of Germany. Particularly this Christmas market is inspired to that which takes place in Nuremberg from the mid-sixteenth century. The Chicago Christmas market brings the German and European tradition in this part of the United States and is the largest open-air Christmas market in Chicago. The Chicago Christmas market is held on Daley plaza in the Chicago Loop (between Dearborn, Washington and Clark Street).

Opening Hours: Open daily: Friday – Saturday 11am-9pm; Sunday – Thursday 11am-8pm. Special Hours: Thanksgiving Day Nov. 23rd 11am – 4 pm. Christmas Eve Dec. 24th 11am – 4 pm.
