Ljubljana Christmas markets

Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, is located just 90 km from Trieste and the border with Italy, this historic city can be an interesting alternative destination for visiting the classic Christmas markets. Ljubljana was for centuries under the Austrian Habsburgs and the city was affected and still is affected by the Austrian influence in the palaces and in its appearance and also in the mentality of the inhabitants. Even the Christmas markets in Ljubljana are affected by the history that has closely linked the city to German culture and are in fact set up like those held in neighboring Austria.

1) Ljubljana Christmas Market (Praznični sejem). The market winds along the Ljubljanica river, between the streets and squares Breg, Cankarjevo nabrežje, Prešernov trg, and its setting in the heart of the old city is very suggestive. In the market you will find all kinds of gifts for your loved ones and friends or for yourself and many opportunities to taste the typical Slovenian Christmas foods. The shops in the center are also very beautiful, also sumptuously decorated for the holidays.

2) Fair of San Nicola or San Niccolò (Miklavžev sejem). Traditional Slovenian fair held in Prešernov trg square, in the stalls of this fair you will find the gifts that Slovenians give to their children during the feast of St. Nicholas (December 6), this tradition dates back to the 19th century.

3) Christmas Art Market (Božični Art Market) in Pošta Slovenije, Čopova ulica 11 (atrij). Every year, in December in the atrium of the central post office, on Čopova street in Ljubljana, a large art Christmas market takes place. Market of creators and artists that offers the possibility of buying a completely original and imaginative art product. Painters, sculptors, architects, jewelry, wood, glass, leather designers, stylists and other artists from all over Slovenia participate.
