Merode Castle is one of the most impressive Renaissance water castles in the Rhineland and is, along with its park, open to visitors during Advent season.
Over the past 15 years, the “Romantic Christmas Market”, which is based on the roots of the traditional, contempla-tive Christmas, has gained an international reputation. With its successful mix of traditional handicrafts and selected gastronomy, romantic light installations, open fireplaces and the impressively illuminated castle, the market offers a unique atmosphere.
The varied programme with live bands and choirs, the daily appearances of the Christmas Angel followed by the visitors singing together, as well as the celebration of the popular European holidays in honour of Saint Lucia and Saint Nicholas spread a lot of atmosphere and make this market so special.
